What is the Friends of the Golf Course Invitation?

The Friends of the Golf Course Invitational is an event we host every year to help raise funds for our Golf Course Enhancement Fund and Student Scholarship Fund. You do not need to be a Friend of the Golf Course to participate and a portion of your fees associated with this event are Tax Deductible!  This is open to anyone (Friends, Members, and Guests).

When: Thursday, June 13th, 2024

Where: University of Maryland Golf Course

Schedule 

  • 9:00 am – Registration and range opens
  • 10:00 am – Shotgun start
  • 2:30 pm – Reception start, Cocktails
  • 3:00 pm – Food Served
  • 4:00 pm – Awards, Raffles, Auction, Golf Course Updates, and Closing Remarks

Format     

  • 4 person shamble

Cost        

  • $800 per team (or $200 as an individual) 

What is included for each player

  • Round of Golf & Cart
  • Tee Gift 
  • Complimentary snacks and drinks including select beer and wine during the round.
  • Reception – Full course meal with drinks including select beer and wine 

How to register and pay

  • Complete the registration form below and return it to Matt Clair either via email, mail or in person. 
  • If paying via check made payable to UMCP Foundation.

Sponsorship Opportunities

Since this event is a fundraising event we have several sponsorship opportunities available for you or your company.  Examples of sponsorship include hole sponsorship, contest sponsorship, and beverage cart sponsorship. Below are links to the sponsorship menu and sponsorship form.  

We are also looking for any prizes that can be used in both our raffle and silent auction.

Becoming a Friend

Friends of the Golf Course, Fund for Excellence
Your support as a Friend of the Golf Course is needed to fund those improvements not included in our annual operating budget. Projects currently under consideration at this time include a restroom between the tees of holes 3 and 15, covered tees at the driving range, permanent scoreboard, tournament software and a rain shelter.

Friends Mission Statement
The Friends of the University of Maryland Golf Course will advocate and support continuing enhancements and upgrades to the course to assure its legacy as a premier golfing experience.

How You Can Help
There are a number of ways that you can get involved with the Golf Course Fund for Excellence. You may become a Friend of the Golf Course by donating $1,000 or more annually. This charitable contribution is unequivocally stating that you want your golf course’s legacy as a premier recreation and meeting facility to continue. Naming opportunities are also available. Please see the Naming Opportunities page for information.

Special benefits as our Friend include: a commemorative golf course gift; pre-event notices and invitations, membership in the University of Maryland’s Philanthropy Society, donor recognition in various publications, a special parking permit for designated Friends of the Golf Course spaces, and an invitation to the Annual Friends of the Golf Course Invitational.

Why should I support the University of Maryland Golf Course?

Generous support from alumni and Friends of the Golf Course help to ensure the course’s award-winning standing as a top University course and as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.

Areas for support:

1) UMD Golf Course Enhancement Fund

The University Golf Course has served as host to the PGA Nationwide Tour’s Melwood Prince George’s County Open, national, regional, and local tournaments, and annual host to the Maryland State High School Championships. The course is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, and was dedicated in 1959 to the health and recreation needs of the University of Maryland and local communities.

The Golf Course Enhancement Fund assists with maintenance and enhancement of the University of Maryland Golf Course.

2) The Jeff Maynor Student Employee Golf Course Scholarship

The Jeff Maynor Student Employee Golf Course Scholarship supports Golf Course student employees with the costs associated with academic and living needs. The scholarships are supported through the generous donations from alumni and Friends of the Golf Course.

3) UMD Golf for Business and Life Program Fund

In collaboration with the Department of Kinesiology and the Robert H. Smith School of Business, the University of Maryland Golf Course offers an undergraduate Golf for Business and Life class.

The Maryland Golf for Business and Life Program Fund supports the operation and execution of the “Business and Life Program,” including equipment and staff support.
