Operation 36 Development Program
University of Maryland Golf Course
A proven pathway for beginner golfers to learn the game, build confidence, and enjoy playing golf.
What is Operation 36?
Operation 36 is a beginner-friendly golf development program used at golf facilities around the world. Instead of starting from full course distance, players begin just 25 yards from the green and play a 9‑hole challenge with the goal of shooting 36 or better. When that goal is achieved, golfers move back to the next distance level.
This structured progression helps new golfers develop skills, understand scoring, and gain confidence while enjoying real on-course play.
How the Program Works
Learn
Weekly coaching sessions focus on fundamental skills including putting, chipping, pitching, and full swing basics.
Play
Players participate in on‑course challenges where they test their skills starting from beginner-friendly distances.
Progress
Participants track their development through the Operation 36 app and advance through levels as their skills improve.
